Complete One: Why a first job in sales is a step in the right direction

Now in graduate season, Newcastle-based outsourced sales and marketing experts Complete One are advocating for graduates to begin their career with a job in sales, highlighting three main skills that it can bring.

Since they launched in 2012, Complete One have acquired vast experience working with graduates, and they have successfully coached and mentored many of those graduates, assisting them to become successful businessmen and women.

The sales and marketing specialists argue that besides the ability to sell being the most sought after skill in the world, working in sales can teach many critical skills:

1. The art of selling

Complete One argue that no matter the industry, there is always an element of sales involved. “Whether you are selling a product or selling yourself, sales is everywhere,” commented Glen Lowes, Managing Director at Complete One. A survey of business leaders conducted by Hult International Business School revealed that strong sales skills was a top 10 critical skill of today’s workplace.

2. Communication skills

Gaining the confidence and ability to be able to communicate ideas and speak eloquently is important in any career. As with any skill, practice makes perfect, and a sales job is the perfect profession to master that skill. Complete One believes that sales also helps individuals learn how to speak to, and connect with different types of people – something that is borderline essential in business. “Great leaders have the ability to inspire through speech, and this is one of the best things that sales teaches you,” commented Mr Lowes.

3. Confidence

“Sales will force people out of their comfort zone and build their confidence,” claims Mr Lowes. The entrepreneur and business owner argues that closing deals and getting better at sales will help instil confidence. "Being able to speak to strangers and turn them into customers is a huge confidence booster and in both personal and professional ventures, confidence is a highly valuable tool,” commented Mr Lowes.

Complete One is one of the leading direct marketing and sales companies in the North East. The ambitious and dynamic firm specialise in customer acquisition through in-person promotions.  Their expertise lies in increasing market share and raising brand awareness, for their client portfolio, through face-to-face promotional marketing and sales campaigns. As graduates begin to make the transition from education into business, Complete One is encouraging them to make sales their first job.

There has been an incredible amount of work going on behind the scenes, carefully planning the best strategy for both company and client success. With early results exceeding expectations, and extremely positive feedback from consumers, Mr Lowes put pen to paper and set the ball rolling for Complete One to launch the campaign officially on February 20th.

This is a massive first step towards the outsourced sales and marketing specialists achieving their goals for this year. Expanding their client portfolio was one of Mr Lowes priorities for 2017, as he believes that this will prove to be a springboard for the firm’s expansion. The early stage market research proved to be tremendously successful, and Complete One have used data and feedback to make a few small changes ahead of the official launch. “One of the keys to making a new campaign launch successful is identifying the right people to work on the project, and I am confident we have put together a group of our strongest contractors,” said Mr Lowes.

Complete One: The Power of Goal Setting

Managing Director at Complete One, Glen Lowes advocates the power of goal setting, and encourages budding entrepreneurs to set goals that keep them motivated.

2016 was a record-breaking year at Complete One who exceeded the £1million turnover target.  The focus for 2017 is now firmly on growth.  “Last year we invested a lot of time into setting up a reliable infrastructure, concentrating on nurturing and developing the group of talented and ambitious individuals we work with.” Said Glen Lowes, Managing Director at Complete One.    Mr Lowes credits the progress at Complete One to goal setting.  The award-winning entrepreneur and business owner consistently sets new goals and argues that people should not underestimate the power of goal setting, particularly targets that encourage motivation.

Mr Lowes has revealed the basics for effective goal setting as follows:

1. Specific
Setting specific goals is vital! It’s crucial to consider what you want to accomplish, what it will take to get there and vitally why you want to achieve that goal.  Mr Lowes believes that people fail to follow through with their goals because they are too vague.  “People who set vague goals never go anywhere.” Said Mr Lowes.

2. Measurable
Measurable goals are imperative as it allows someone to track their progress.  If someone can see that they are improving then, it will motivate them to keep going.

3. Attainable
For someone to stick to their goals, they have to believe that they can achieve it, claims Mr Lowes.  While it’s key that goals are exciting and motivating, Complete One's Managing Director, Glen Lowes, argues that people need to set goals that are both attainable and exciting. Boring goals are not motivating and will fail to inspire people to take action.

4. Realistic
At Complete One they encourage their staff and contractors to dream big and set big goals. However, Mr Lowes reiterates the importance of making those goals realistic.   Goals that are too unrealistic will fall through.  It’s vital to start slow, take action, and keep moving forward claims Mr Lowes.

5. Timely
Having a deadline will intensify focus and motivation.  Working under the constraints of a time limit will force you to produce results, fast.

When speaking about the company goals for 2017, Mr Lowes revealed his personal goals for the year, which are centred on developing his role as a mentor and coach.  “One of the greatest pleasures I get from being a business owner is playing a role in the career development of fellow professionals.  I am invested in the progress of the people I coach and mentor.  I gain a real sense of gratification in helping others to succeed, and this year I am committed to broadening my network.” Said Mr Lowes.

Complete One is an outsourced sales and marketing firm based in Newcastle. The company specialises in a personalised form of direct marketing which allows them to make long-lasting connections with consumers on behalf of their clients’ brands. Complete One highlight the 6 differences between great and bad leaders

Newcastle-based, direct marketing and sales specialists, Complete One believe that strong leadership is the foundation for success in any area of life. Here they have highlighted the 6 differences between great and bad leaders.

Complete One believe that excelling in leadership will result in success. As an expanding company that frequently talent scout, one of the main transferable skills they look for is the ability to lead. Here, Complete One examines the 6 differences between great and bad leaders.
1. Great leaders see potential in people and can nurture it.
Bad leaders fail to identify potential, and instead only focus on the negative, and find fault.
2. Great leaders are always positive and encourage others to do better.
Bad leaders are negative, and are always blaming others for their failures rather than taking responsibility,
3. Great leaders motivate and inspire people to learn, grow and develop.
Bad leaders are only interested in their own progression; they aren’t concerned about the growth of others.
4. Great leaders have the ability to recognise people's strengths and place the best people in the right positions to help them perform well.
Bad leaders exploit people to the benefit of themselves.
5. Great leaders are open to new ideas and are always looking to innovate and improve.
Bad leaders fear change and are unwilling to take any risks.
6. Great leaders appreciate the efforts of their team and recognise and reward them for those efforts.
Bad leaders don’t value their team, and they have the attitude that every member of their team is replaceable.
Since their launch in 2012, Complete One has continued to go from strength to strength. In 2016, the firm broke the £1 million turnover barrier, a goal they have been working towards all year.  Mr Lowes attributes the firm's success to their focus on leadership. At Complete One, leadership is a focal point of their coaching and mentoring program. Managing Director, Glen Lowes, takes a hands-on approach, actively advising and guiding young professionals, educating them on the pillars of leadership, and how to lead and motivate others.
“I believe that every successful business is built on solid leadership foundations and those good leaders are imperative for a business to succeed and prosper.” Said Managing Director, Glen Lowes.

Complete one share their ultimate guide to networking

The experienced business owner, entrepreneur and Managing Director at Complete One, Glen Lowes attributes much of his success to his diverse and influential network of fellow professionals, and he encourages people to utilise all networking opportunities to build their connections.

At Complete One, their staff and contractors have the opportunity to attend many industry conferences and seminars, providing them with the chance to network.  The direct marketing specialists have shared their ultimate guide to networking.

1) Take your business cards

Although this may seem quite basic, offering a business card is an excellent way to pass on your information, and it will often be an exchange with the connector providing their business card.  “Business cards were something I never used to bother with, however, this year I decided to bite the bullet, and the feedback I get has made it something I never leave the office without.  It doesn’t have to be an expensive option either; there are many cost-effective sites to create your own.

2) Have a great handshake

"For me, there is nothing more off-putting than a bad handshake," said Mr Lowes.  A handshake is like a first impression, and you only get one chance to get it right.   Mr Lowes argues that a good handshake is firm, memorable, and has eye contact.

3) Have an 'elevator' pitch ready

An elevator pitch should be kept short and concise.  In approximately 90 seconds you should be able to convey information about yourself, explain what you do and where you work, who your clients are (if you have any), and your goals for the future. Mr Lowes encourages people to practice their elevator pitch, so they can use it whenever necessary.

4) Build relationships

Mr Lowes believes it is important to get to know people on both a personal and professional level and that it is important to build relationships.  “Don't expect overnight miracles, it takes time for people to develop confidence in you and you need to invest time into those relationships to reap the benefits.” Said Mr Lowes.

5) Quality over quantity

Mr Lowes firmly believes that a good network is one that consists of quality connections rather than volume.  “Make sure you assemble a diverse and quality network of individuals who can progress your business development.  While it can be tempting to acquire as many connections as possible, it is important to make sure people you connect with serve a purpose."

Complete One is an award-winning events promotions firm based in the heart of Newcastle City Centre.  Their expertise lies in increasing market share and raising brand awareness for their clients, through face-to-face promotional marketing and sales campaigns at events and venues throughout the North East.  Managing Director Glen Lowes is passionate about coaching, and he offers his advice and knowledge to budding entrepreneurs, encouraging them to network and build connections.

In the third financial quarter, Complete One travelled to Tenerife for a well-earned R&R getaway.  Held from the 13th to the 16th of October,  Mr Lowes and a select group of the firm's top performing contractors and administrators, enjoyed time away from the hustle and bustle of the office environment for some well-earned rest.

Complete One: Why being a good listener is vital to becoming successful in business

Sales and marketing specialists Complete One urge people to fine-tune their listening skills to maximise potential success rates.

Newcastle-based Complete One are confident that fine-tuning listening skills can enhance personal success across a variety of business situations. When building relationships and networking within business activities, professionals can be too keen to promote their abilities and accomplishments - it's important to understand the real asset they have is to listen and take an interest in those around them to achieve strong business links.

Complete One share their top tips on enhancing those listening skills:

1. Make eye contact – When establishing or maintaining a new relationship, it is crucial to engage and collect a better understanding of a given situation. A clear indicator of interest in a conversation is good eye contact and NVC (non-verbal communication). The firm is confident that personal connections will be enhanced if eye contact and NVC is kept positive during a discussion.

2. Only ask one question at a time – When listening to a conversation, it is good practice to wait until the end to ask any inquiries to avoid too many interruptions or redundant questions that would instead be covered by the speaker. When raising queries, Complete One believe it is important to only challenge one at a time.

3. Pay attention – Regardless of multitasking ability, it is bad practice to become distracted when someone is speaking. Instead, pop down any mobile devices and engage fully, taking in all the conversation has to offer.

4. Do not talk – It is important when listening, to fully do so. It is easy to shut a person down with questions or feedback, but instead allow the other person time to speak and relay their information and opinions before responding.

Complete One offer mentoring services to local entrepreneurs and a  common topic that often arises is how to improve listening skills, and the impact on personal relationship development. “When looking after another brand's customers, it is crucial to gather a full understanding of a consumer’s situation to maximise customer experience and build a positive relationship. Our independent contractors are developing new skills in listening and evaluating a client’s needs,” says Glen Lowe’s Managing Director of Complete One.
